The Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment

All students are required to complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) skills assessment as part of their VET enrolment process.

The LLN assessment is designed to determine your current LLN skills and, in turn, your readiness to undertake the intended VET program, or to otherwise identify what additional support you may need to undertake the course.

In worst cases, the assessment might flag that a Student is not ready to undertake the intended VET program and may need specific pathways counselling or advice from their school.

All outcomes and records of the LLN assessments are confidential and only accessible by you, your Trainer and authorised IVET staff.

Please note that:

  • An LLN assessment must be completed for the specific AQF level (certificate level) of the course in which you are enrolling (i.e., Cert I, Cert II, or Cert III).

  • If you have already completed an LLN assessment via a previous enrolment with IVET (for example, a Certificate II), you will not have to complete the LLN assessment again if enrolling into the same or lower AQF level (Certificate I or II in this example).

  • If you have previously completed an LLN assessment for a lower level qualification (for example, Certificate I or Certificate II) and are enrolling into a higher qualification (Certificate III in this example), you will be required to complete another LLN assessment at the higher AQF level.
